ESSENCES FOR THE WINTER BLUES

ESSENCES FOR THE WINTER BLUES

by Mandy Clinch January 2024

Dear Friends

It is very cold and we still have short dark days here in Scotland. If you too live in the northern hemisphere you may like to consider some of these essences. If you are in the southern hemisphere, the same essences can be used on days you might be feeling a little down, hopeless or helpless too!

What are the “Winter Blues”?

The cooler weather and less daylight during the winter months can cause many of us to feel less motivated and even disengaged in everyday life. Some of us may experience the winter blues, while others may have seasonal affective disorder (SAD) which is the medical term for low mood during the winter season.

Symptoms and Signs

Some signs that you may be battling the winter blues or SAD are feeling lethargic, lacking in energy and feeling sleepy during the day, sleeping for longer than normal and finding it hard to get up in the morning.

Some people may suffer with persistent sad, anxious, or “empty” mood, feelings of hopelessness or pessimism, irritability, frustration, or restlessness and feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness.

Findhorn Essences that support the emotions associated with Winter Blues & SAD

There are three fantastic Findhorn Essences which are effective in supporting the emotional and energetic symptoms that are commonly associated with the winter blues and SAD.

Life Force Combination Essence can help overcome tiredness, low energy or burnout and can provide the energy and motivation you need to tackle the busy day ahead. It can help get sleep back into a good rhythm.

Self-Help

There are also several self-help things you can do to help you handle the winter blues. SAD and the winter blues is related to a lack of Vitamin D which we easily absorb in the sunnier summer months from sunlight so ensure you take a daily walk in the fresh air every day or consider a supplement especially during the winter. Also ensure that your diet is filled with foods that are high in Vitamin D giving you a natural boost.

The light produced by SAD light boxes simulates the sunlight that we are missing during the darker winter months so could be a worthwhile investment for people who struggle every year.

Self-love and acceptance is also key. Don’t forget that nature hibernates during the winter and if you feel like doing less, listen to what your body is telling you and do less and accept that this is right for you just now. Things will be brighter and lighter in the Spring!

Sending love and light
